Thoughts
Thoughts are circular, and I'm not sure where to start. I guess maybe... Halloween? I feel like I went super quiet after announcing the results of last year's All Hallows' Tales contest (which, if you remember, I ran on behalf of @memnalar). Did I even send out notes to the winners about the clerihews I would write for them, if asked? I really thought I had, and got no responses. But I just looked at my notes, and there is nothing either in my inbox or my outbox. Did I send them, and then purge my notes at some point since then? I know I sent out a note to those wonderful, generous prize donors, to whom I shall always be grateful. But @squanpie, @CobraToon, @SunlessSquid, if I didn't send that note and you would like to claim your prize clerihews, do let me know. In the end, I got a decent amount of entries for the contest, and I was very happy with the outcome (so was Jay, I think, and that's particularly important to me). Even so, it was weird. I had no concept of advertising the
All Hallows' Tales 2022: RESULTS
I never know how to start these things! Well... contest is over, the results are in, and those who placed will soon be receiving their Halloween treats. Thank you, prize donors! We had fifteen Nightmarish New Beginnings to read, enjoy and ultimately judge, and the standard was overall extremely high. Congratulations to everyone who created something for the contest, and my thanks to you all. Every one of the entries can be read here. Please give them lots of love, especially if they didn't place, because the chances are they came close! But now, the moment you've been waiting for... All Hallows' Tales: Nightmarish New Beginnings
CONTEST CLOSED Look out for the results on October 31st. Step into my parlour... Welcome to the 14th annual All Hallows' Tales Contest, which I am hosting for @Memnalar this year, and I feel truly proud and honoured. I hope to make it feel as much like a 'normal' year as possible; as part of this, whenever you see the pumpkin symbol :pumpkin: it means I have copied Jay's words. This will be because I cannot word the thing any better myself, and/or there are certain traditional phrases that I feel it is right to include. (Just to be incredibly clear, any 'I' or 'me' copied over now refers to ME i.e. @ThornyEnglishRose and NOT to Jay!) As you very likely know, Jay's reason for handing over the reins this year is an unpredictable schedule at the start of a career change. By an extraordinary coincidence, I'm going through a major life change myself, having relocated to the coast (from Hertfordshire to Suffolk, if you want to know). The contest theme is, therefore, in homage to the
Update, including All Hallows Tales
Watch out for the launch of All Hallows Tales in just over a week, at the time of writing. I consider that I am adequately prepared, and I'm pretty excited (though, reading this through, it doesn't seem like the composition of an excited person... but really, it is). I cannot thank you enough if you've given anything to the prize pool. I just wonder, can anyone else promise a journal feature to the three winners? At present, I have only one and, honestly, I'd just like to be able to include an 'and' in the All winners will receive journal features from... bit. Hosting this iconic contest is all part of a massive and strange year for me. My brother and I have bought ourselves a house on the coast, after living all our lives thus far somewhere quite different, and just a few weeks after we moved in, the Queen died. This is a massive change to me, and to everyone in the country, after her 70-year reign. You don't need me to tell you about it.

I find your site elegant and streamlined, with a good start of offerings. Has just a bit of a 'template' feel to it, looks rather like a lot of other author's sites. But, your task is to get people onto it, following and supporting your work. Quality, you have.
